He chose it because it was raw, exceptionally visually attractive, and offered the opportunity to create a destination practically from scratch, according to his own vision. This approach is visible to this day in the communication of Puntacana Resort & Club, which emphasizes that the name “Punta Cana” initially referred only to the company and the project, and only later transformed into one of the strongest tourism brands in the Dominican Republic worldwide. This leads to the main question for 2026: what is the next stage of this story?<\/strong> It is clear that the Rainieri family is attempting to shift Punta Cana from the level of a tourist destination to the role of a multifunctional economic hub. In Citi Private Bank materials, Frank El\u00edas Rainieri indicated the ambition to transform Punta Cana International Airport into a major international logistics hub, leveraging its strategic location between the Americas and Europe. What was recently a vision began to take concrete form in 2025\u20132026. In November 2025, Grupo Puntacana launched the Punta Cana Free Trade Zone\u2014a project presented as the first integrated free trade and logistics park in the Caribbean, connecting air, sea, and land transport. Official materials indicate an area of 742,160 m\u00b2, and communications from the airport and partners emphasize that this is not a side initiative but a new pillar of the business model for the entire region. <\/p>\n\n

Directly related to this is the second direction of development, namely aviation MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul), or aircraft technical services<\/strong>. In practice, this means building service infrastructure for aviation. Official communications from 2025\u20132026 show that Grupo Puntacana, together with FL Technics, is developing an MRO center on the grounds of the Punta Cana Free Trade Zone with a land area of 115,588 m\u00b2 and 27,000 m\u00b2 of built space. The first phase includes five bays for narrow-body aircraft, with plans to expand to twelve. The project is expected to generate approximately 1,600 jobs and create in Punta Cana not only a travel destination but also technical infrastructure for aviation on a regional scale. This is a clear qualitative change. The Rainieri family is no longer developing solely a “vacation destination” but building a broad economic platform centered around aviation infrastructure. <\/p>\n\n

In parallel, further strengthening of Punta Cana International Airport itself and the premium offering continues<\/strong>. Official PUJ data for 2025 indicate over 11 million passengers, 35,092 flight operations, and weekly records reaching 900 flights in December 2025. At that time, the airport connected 81 ports in 26 countries, and development was supported by new connections and infrastructure investments, including the expansion of Terminal B parking. If we add to this the opening of W Punta Cana, Adult All-Inclusive in Uvero Alto in October 2025, and Francesca Rainieri’s strategic statements about shifting the model toward luxury tourism with higher value, the direction becomes unambiguous. The Rainieri family is no longer solely seeking to increase traffic volume. The goal is to improve its quality, strengthen the premium segment, and achieve greater diversification beyond the classic all-inclusive hotel model. <\/p>\n\n

There is another thread that illustrates well the Rainieris’ way of thinking about the future<\/strong>.
