The paths of many hurricanes curve northward, more frequently striking Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, or Florida. Hurricane Erin is the latest confirmation of this pattern: its direct impact bypassed the Dominican Republic, and local effects were limited to temporary beach closures and weather warnings.
