It&#8217;s no wonder people have mixed feelings \u2013 on the one hand, the Dominican Republic is presented as a true paradise on Earth and an ideal place to purchase real estate, only to later find an article online about issues with firearms and crime. What is the reality? We reassure you upfront \u2013 <strong>life in the Dominican Republic is truly safe<\/strong>.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Read: <a href=\"https:\/\/casa-dominicana.com\/en\/dominican-republic-according-to-the-global-peace-index-2025-report\/\">The Dominican Republic according to the Global Peace Index 2025 report<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-przestepczosc-statystyki-mowia-jasno\"><strong>Crime \u2013 statistics speak for themselves<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When it comes to \u201ccrime\u201d in the Dominican Republic, the most dangerous culprits turn out to be\u2026 pickpockets. However, this level is not significantly higher than in our home country \u2013 indeed, a moment of inattention in a crowded place can cost you your wallet, but such things happen all over the globe (including in Poland). <strong>Throughout our many years of operation in the Dominican Republic, we have never encountered \u201cserious\u201d crime<\/strong>, such as an attempt to snatch a purse by force or extortion with a knife. Of course, we are not claiming that such situations never occur, but to avoid them, it is enough not to visit \u201csuspicious\u201d places after dark \u2013 which is exactly the same as in any other country.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The issue of firearms is similar: <strong>the problem has been 99% exaggerated by the mass media<\/strong>. Although firearms can be obtained relatively easily in the Dominican Republic (all that&#8217;s needed is an annually renewed license, being over 30 years old, passing psychological tests, and completing a firearms handling course), it is a myth that you can find a pistol in any random store here. Indeed, from time to time you might meet someone who has a gun permit, but the vast majority are respectable citizens who have honestly completed psychological tests, courses, and training.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Therefore, if you decide to invest in <a href=\"https:\/\/casa-dominicana.com\/en\/\">real estate in the Dominican Republic<\/a>, your only concern should be locking your home. <strong>The chance of someone breaking in and stealing is extremely low<\/strong> \u2013 as Casa Dominicana, we oversee the properties we manage, and we have never encountered such an unpleasant surprise.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-klimat-huragany-trzesienie-ziemi\"><strong>Climate \u2013 hurricanes, earthquakes<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the Dominican Republic, theoretically, there is something called a \u201churricane season\u201d<strong>,<\/strong> which lasts from June to October (i.e., outside the peak tourist season). Statistically, the highest chance of a hurricane occurs in the months of August to September. Nevertheless, <strong>hurricanes are truly rare, and most of them are too weak to, for example, tear off a roof<\/strong>. Evacuations of residents do happen \u2013 but this is a mere formality and a proverbial \u201cbetter safe than sorry\u201d approach. Hurricanes sometimes damage power lines or break tree branches, but there is no talk of regularly flying cars or fatalities here.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The issue of earthquakes is similarly rare \u2013 the Dominican Republic experiences them very infrequently. <\/strong>The same cannot be said for neighboring Haiti: an active seismic Enriquillo-Plantain fault line extends there, which, however, does not affect the lives of Dominicans. Thanks to modern detection and warning systems, the problem of tsunamis, often exaggerated by the media, is also not an issue. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-pozostale-rekiny-pajaki-malaria\"><strong>Other \u2013 sharks, spiders, malaria<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Sharks are less common here than in other countries<\/strong> with access to the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean \u2013 partly due to the coral reef, which acts as a natural barrier preventing larger fish from accessing the beaches. Moreover: it&#8217;s not without reason that people say the chance of winning the lottery is 18 times higher than a shark attack. \ud83d\ude42 However, we must admit that <strong>the Dominican Republic is not a paradise for arachnophobes<\/strong> \u2013 because spiders do occur (and are \u201cslightly\u201d larger than what Polish standards have accustomed us to). However, we can reassure you that the menacing-looking Dominican spiders are completely non-aggressive and even timid when encountering humans. In fact, encountering a spider in a professionally managed estate is extremely rare. Well-maintained gardens, green areas, and frequent fumigations reduce this problem to an absolute minimum. <strong>The Dominican Republic also does not have a problem with, for example, malaria<\/strong> \u2013 every year, millions of tourists visit this country and return home with a smile and in full health.      <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-bezpieczenstwo-w-dominikanie-podsumowanie\"><strong>Safety in the Dominican Republic \u2013 summary<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In summary: <strong>more than an armed robbery, theft, hurricane, earthquake, sharks, spiders, or malaria, one should fear\u2026 Dominican drivers<\/strong>. The road code here is treated more as a loose suggestion than a strict law, and the manual skills of local drivers leave much to be desired. Just keep your eyes peeled when approaching a busy street, and everything will be fine.
