For years, interest in golf tourism has been growing, and many Poles, to pursue their passion longer, choose warm countries for their golf holidays. Winter has already arrived in our country, which coincides with the start of the best travel season to the Dominican Republic.
There are excellent conditions for playing all year round. The December-March period is the coldest in Poland, while the Dominican Republic welcomes us with pleasant temperatures. Naturally, the Dominican Republic can boast more than just good weather. There are excellent all-inclusive resorts, boutique hotels, and houses and apartments for rent. Above all, there is an offer of the world’s most outstanding golf courses.
The Dominican Republic, with its diversity of nature and attractions, makes it an excellent place for a golf holiday. If we want to take a break from our favorite game, the range of activities here is incredibly rich. The biggest tourist attractions are relatively close to each other and to the hotel base. This allows you to enjoy a game one day and comfortably explore the beautiful Dominican Republic the next.
The magazine “The Links” once ranked the Dominican Republic among the 25 best golf islands in the world. The country has over 30 golf courses. They were designed by world-renowned architects, including Pete Dye, PB Dye, Jack Nicklaus, Robert Trent Jones, Tom Fazio, and Greg Norman. In the La Romana region on the southeastern coast of the Dominican Republic, one of the highest-rated golf resorts on our globe is located – Casa de Campo. Other favorite destinations include Punta Espada, La Cana, Hard Rock Golf Club, and Iberostar Bavaro Golf & Club.
Caribbean golf came of age with the opening of Pete Dye’s Teeth of the Dog course at Casa de Campo resort in 1971. This beautiful course right on the Caribbean Sea remains one of the best tests in the region, but it faces fierce competition in its own backyard.
Punta Espada is located in the exclusive gated community of Cap Cana on the eastern tip of the island. It is one of Jack Nicklaus’s best works and is open to everyone for golf. Eight holes, which are located along the ocean, are certainly memorable for everyone who has had the opportunity to play here.
A few minutes from Cap Cana is PuntaCana Resort and Club, which has 45 golf holes. The best course is “Corales,” designed by Tom Fazio. The course throws a bit of everything at players: hills, sand, water, and wind – and both nines end along the black coral coast.
The rapidly developing northern coast of the Dominican Republic also boasts several first-class courses. Playa Grande, designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., offers ocean views from every hole. 10 greens and all par threes are on coastal cliffs. However, Rees says there are shot options for all skill levels, including the revitalized golf course.
If you want to do more than just play golf, the Dominican Republic offers a plethora of options. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world. Every year, 7 million tourists visit the Dominican Republic. Facilities like the Hard Rock Casino Punta Cana (about 30 km north of PuntaCana Resort and Club) are not uncommon. This Las Vegas-style mega-resort with 1800 rooms has its own huge private beach, 13 pools, nine restaurants, 23 bars, nightclubs, and a casino. The property also features a Nicklaus golf course, which is most memorable for the flamingos in the water by the last hole. It’s a good warm-up before tackling the other, more challenging courses mentioned.
In summary, the Dominican Republic is definitely a must-see place on earth for all who enjoy beautiful beaches and lush vegetation. Its golf courses are an absolute must-play for golf travelers!
